Bustaffa thrice-jinxed

The thrice-jinxed French wing, Daniel Bustaffa, will fly home on Thursday, saddened that fate has knocked him out of yet another rugby tour. And there is uncertainty about just who his replacement will be. Bustaffa was injured on the French tour of Argentina two years ago, and was again hurt on a tour of Japan last year. Last week-

end he broke a shoulder in the game against Fiji in Suva.

And although the New Zealand Rugby Union invited him to see out the tour as a guest, the 23-year-oid wing decided to fly home to Carcassonne. French journalists said he was “too sad to stay.” There is a problem about the replacement for Bustaffa.

The man mentioned as the likely choice, Jean-Yves Pelicia, is touring Sardinia with the Toulon club and French Rugby Federation officials in Paris are having difficulty tracing him. Pelicia is four years older than Bustaffa, and a strong aggressive wing who played in both tests against the 1977 All Blacks.
