MILITARY LIST
Four servicemen involved in the dramatic rescue of an i injured Russian seaman in November, last year, have received recognition in the Military List. The pilot of the Wasp helicopter which made the rescue, Lieutenant A. G. Tunnicliffe, has the rare distinction of being awarded the Air Force Cross while a serving Naval officer. Chief Petty Officer (Medical) W. C. Filmer is awarded a British Empire Medal, while Sergeant R. K. Forman and Sergeant B. J. Woodcock, of the R.N.Z A.F, receive the Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Service in the Air. The four were aboard H.M.N.Z.S. Waikato when the plea for help came from the Russian trawler Ardatov south-east of Campbell Island. Lieutenant Tunnicliffe landed C.P.O. Filmer and Sergeant Woodcock on the deck of the pitching Russian trawler and then winched the injured seaman to safety. Among other recipients of Military Honours is Air Marshal R. B. Bolt, who receives the K.B.E. He saw war service with R.A.F. Bomber Command in 1344 and 1945, including a tour on Pathfinder operations. He returned to New Zealand in 1946. He was appointed Director of Operations and Flying Training in 1960 and in 1968 was appointed Director of Defence Plans after filling a
number of senior appoint-} ments overseas. Captain B. D. Rennie, of Burnham, is the first male nursing officer in the New Zealand forces to be awarded the A R.R.C. (Associate of the Royal Red Cross).
