Farm visit to China
PA Wellington, Professor J. D. Stewart, of I Lincoln College, is among al group of New Zealand agri-j cultural experts who will! visit China later this month, to help set up a model farm. ; This was announced! yesterday by the Acting; Prime Minister (Mr Tai-1 boys). The other members of ; the group are Mr M.| O’Coiinor, of Ashworth-Mor-rison-Cooper: Mr D. Ives, of A.N.Z.D.E.C.. and Mr C.j Mortlock of Agrico.
Ashworth-Morrison-Cooper and Zi.N.Z.D.E.C. is a local and international agricultural consultancy. Agrico is a subsidiary of Dalgety’s in agricultural consultancy, and the provision of services and goods. “The mission will examine a site in Quangxi province, which the Chinese have in
mind for a pilot farm projec’ to develop livestock breeding, principally dualpurpose cattle, but also sheep,” said Mr Taiboys. “The Government is confident that the visit will not only result in the sale of consultancy services to China, but will open up possibilities for the export of livestock, seeds and equipment. The visit should also give further opportunities for New Zealand participation in China’s modernisation of its agriculture.” China had given agricultural development top prior-
ity in its modernisation programme and had expressed strong interest in the experience and expertise which New Zealand had to offer in the pastoral sector. This was reflected in the growing number of agricul l tural delegations from China visiting New Zealand, and the invitation to the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Maclntyre) to visit China in August, said Mr Taiboys. The delegation which is expected to depart on June 27. is going to China at the invitation of the Chinese Foreign Minister (Mr Le Qiang). The group is expected to be in China for two weeks. Professor Stewart has also been invited to be a member of Mr Maclntyre's delegation in August.
