Situations Vacant BILATERAL AID PROGRAMME SOLOMON ISLANDS RURAL DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED for the position of Rural Development Assistant (RDA) in the Solomon Islands Ministry of Agriculture and Lands for the communal farm project at Buala on the island of Santa Isabel, under the New Zealand bilateral aid programme. The RDA will work with head-labour, group leaders and farmers, training them and assisting in preparing and developing land into commercially viable units. In particular, the RDA will be required to assist in simple construction jobs (bridges, drainage, etc.,) land clearing, establishing crops and livestock, maintaining and operating farm machinery. He will also organise labour, purchases, marketing and shipping, and initiate simple farm accounting. Applicants must have sound working knowledge of basic agricultural farming principles and wide experience in the above fields. Relevant experience on, for example, land incorporations would be useful. A diploma in an agricultural science is desirable but not essential.
