It was like old times

One of the side attractions at next year’s world ploughing championships, which will be held near Lincoln, will be a demonstration of ploughing by a team of Clydesdale horses owned by Mr K. J. Stewart. Mr Stewart, who has a dairy farm near Lincoln, is already preparing his six-horse team for the

occasion, and last week when members of the Clydesdale Society of New Zealand were in Christchurch for their annual general meeting he invited them to visit his farm and drive his team. Mr Stewart had half of his team out harrowing a pasture. One of those who took a turn with the reins was

78-year-old Mr Bill Neish. For him it was like old times. He was a teamster in Canterbury in the 1920 s and 19305. He used to drive for the Deans on Homebush estate. Mr Neish is seen in the accompanying photograph guiding (from left) Alfa, Lofty, and Dee around the paddock.
