Cuts a surprise
The Deputy Prime Minister (Mr Taiboys) said yesterday that he did not think the Cabinet had envisaged the extent of television cuts just announced when it decided to reject an increase in the television licence fee. Mr Taiboys, answering questions at a news conference after the Government caucus meeting, was « < k . CaWn.t M envisaged such extensive cuts.
“No, I don’t think it did,” he said. The matter was not discussed by the caucus yesterday but would possibly be discussed at Monday’s Cabinet meeting. As the rqgjuber of Parliament for an area affected by the cuts (Wailace), he would take part in any discussion, Mr Tallhoys said. But he said he “We cannot have our cake and eat it,” he said.
