Wool prices improve
PA Napier Prices were in sellers’ favour for all types of wool at the Napier sale yesterday.
The market was officially quoted as being up slightly on last week’s WellingtonWanganui sale, and fully firm on last month’s Napier sale.
The 20,299 bales of greasy wool offered included 1400 from the Wool Board’s stockpile. Second-shear wool comprised 80 per cent of the offening, the balance being 5 per cent fleece and crutchings, 2
per cent lambs’ wool, plus the usual oddments. The second-shear fleece was of good style and length, most types carrying a little more dust and condition than at previous sales. Competition throughout the sale was keen, particularly for wool of good style and length. The main interest was provided by New Zealand woollen mills and Eastern Europe, supported strongly by the Continent and Iran. The adjusted weighted average selling price (AWASP) yesterday was 231.59 c a kilogram.
