RACE 7 T.A.B. DOUBLE 2.30 p.m.— TE AWAMUTU CUP $6000; 2300 m 1 0608 ROYAL CADENZA (17) 59 5. Classy stayer when at best but not long back from a let-up and will very likely need a bit more. Ran on last start over 1600 m, Ellerslie, June 2, and better suited this longer distance. L. Cavanagh 2 1290 LAVARO (20) 55.5. Hit good form last Christmas and recent middle-distance winner, Gisborne. Never in it last Saturday, Cornwall Handicap before finishing 12th. Not on that showing. R. Taylor 3 8006 KAUERE LAD (1) 53. Good little mudlark when at best. Not long back racing again when running on last start, 1600 m, Ellerslie, June 2. Could be worth some attention with conditions to suit.

P. Hillis 5 2134 TONI RENEE (14) 51.5. Model of consistency, continuing form in higher grades with third behind My Binnie, two starts back. Last start fourtii over 1600 m. Ellerslie, June 4. One to beat.

J. Grylls 6 0000 CAUTION (7) 51. Won U2 middle-distance, Ellerslie last August but form meanwhile not encouraging. N. Tiley 7 1000 DAINTY OAK (4) 51. Won 2200 m Paeroa Cup in March but form since has been poor.

R. Manning 8 0140 MERCURIOUS (12) 51. Winner three starts back over 2200 m. Always well back last time over 2200 m at Ellerslie, Saturday ‘but capable of much better.

D. Peak 9 1230 CADET (19) 50.5. Faded to Uth from pacemaking last start, C2, 2200 m, Ellerslie, June 2. after second at Ellerslie and third (relegated from first) at Ruakaka. Has to be allowed another chance.

G. Grylls 10 0000 COPING (6) 50.5. Showed promise early autumn of regaining form but failed to “come up*’ on Sydney campaign. Has ability and handles soft track pretty well.

R. Swiff 11 2042 FRAXIBARD (3) 50.5. Consistent and ran on last start when third, promoted to second over 2200 m. Ruakaka, May 25. Seems better than most when the going is very wet.

Well beaten since promising run fresh up. 20 900 NIPPY JIM (19) 50. Speedy still but seldom shows much stamina. B. York 19 4706 NICKLE BE (11) 50. Newcomer to the north without much in the way of recent

Form a bit patchy but includes a good last start third behind Lord Novello over 1400 m at Ellerslie on Saturday. Up in the but should go well again. R. Vance 2 2315 MEED (6) 56.5. Consistent and followed a win over 1400 m at Ruakaka on May 25 with a fifth over 1600 m at Ellerslie on June 4. Handles heavy ground well. 3 0060 PRINCE AMURA (8) 56.5. Speedy still but seldom runs on sufficiently well. K. Patrick 4 0740 KAHAWAI (13) 55.5. Good middle-distance runner which will be having second race after a spell. 5 6531 LORD NOVELLO (9) 55.5. Very useful winter sprinter when in top form and looks one of the hardest to beat. G. Grylls 6 0281 EVEN DOLLARS (15) 55. Last start winner over 1200 m at Ellerslie on June 4. finishing gamely. Showed early promise but latest form hardly inspiring. 10 1000 INNES LAD (16) 52.5. Smart at best but has failed to show up in two starts since back from a spell. N. Tiley 11 0850 FASTA ZECAN (2) 52. Well beaten last time over 1200 m at Ellerslie on June 2 after a promising fifth over 1200 m at Rotorua on May 26 behind Avenger. K. Reggett <7 1111 LOOK HITHER (21) 51.5. Through intermediate company in impressive form. Has to be considered in this first attempt in this class, even from so wide. 18 9000 BALKAN CHIEF (17) 51. Right out of form. Not on latest efforts. 19 6900 BASHFUL GIRL (10) 51. Hard to allow a chance on recent form. 20 4600 BEAU CHEVALIER (18) 51. Best known as a jumper in fust race for nearly 12 months, is hard to consider. 21 0070 CRYSTAL STAR (4) 51. Form would have to improve greatly to be a chance here 22 0709 LICHELLE (23) 51. Once useful winter sprinter, too long out of form to make any appeal. 23 TRUE TO ORDER (1) 51. Has not raced for 12 months and would be lucky to get a start in this one.
