N.Z. wins, F.A. loses
Despite the success of thei’ New Zealand soccer team on i the playing field against 1 Australia on Wednesday < evening, the New Zealand 1 Football Association faces a < financial loss on the match, t To make the picture even 1 more gloomy, the N.Z.F.A. < also received a report at its council meeting in Auckland I yesterday saying that the I match between New Zealand s and Norwich City on May < 11 is likely to cost the asso- < ciation about $4OOO. This is bad news for theji council which already faces a deficit for the year of I about $27,000, about $20,000 < more than was originally i budgeted for. In addition the national team’s trip to Korea at the end of last year incurred a loss of about $9OOO. The council's secretary (Mr Steuart Goodman) said $5OOO could probably be saved by the careful pruning of budgets but the remaining deficit would have to come from alternative fund rais- | l The council’s chairman (Mr Terry Killalea) said that efforts would have to be made to restrain expenditure and the council decided its financial committee should keep a much tighter control of the association’s finances and consider the whole situation carefully.
