The third fatal topdressing aircraft crash in Otago in the last 12 months occurred at Tokoiti, near Milton yesterday when a Balclutha pilot, Alan David Briggs, aged 24, was klled, reports the Press Association from Dunedin. Mr Briggs, who was
married with two children, was taking off in a Fletcher FU24 aircraft from an airstrip in rugged country, eight kilometres southwest of Milton, when the crash occurred. He was about to spread his fifth load of fertiliser on a Tokoiti farm when his aircraft crashed on a slope
leading into a gully at one end of the airstrip. There was no fire. Mr Briggs is believed to have been killed instantly. The aircraft, which was owned by Phoenix Aviation, Ltd, and based at Balclutha, will be inspected by an inspector of aircraft accidents today.
