French players ‘keyed up’
PA Auckland Twenty-five French rugby players arrived in Auckland yesterday, worn out by jet lag and looking forward to 24 hours rest before flying to Fiji for Saturday’s test in Suva. But through all the tiredness and hustle and bustle at the airport and hotel one man came through it all serenely, and with every sign of good humour. The manager, Mr Yves Noe, a 57-year-old steel merchant, said: “I am very optimistic about this team. “They are really keyed up, they have an excellent spirit and the fact that they
have been instilled with the importance of the task ahead is every reason for confidence.” Mr Noe would not be drawn on whether he would forecast wins over the All Blacks in the coming test series.
“They will be very hard games, although I do not mean hard in the bad sense.” He said that the French were trying to get close to their famous adventurous style of previous years. 'But rugby is like fashion, every now and then you change it. You fashion your game to what you have, you build your style round your strong points,” Mr Noe said
