AT A MEETING held between representatives of the Canterbury Sheep Owners’ Industrial Union of Employers, Canterbury Branch N.Z. Shearing Contractors’ Industrial Union of Employers and N.Z. Workers’ Industrial Union of Workers, on Monday, June 11, 1979. at Christchurch, the following rates for the 1979-80 season were agreed upon:— NATIONAL AWARD RATE $33.50 plus Canterbury Premium 15 per cent: $38.52. LAMB SHEARING RATE $34.67. Shearing by COVER COMB $4.50 per 100 in addition to the Shearing Rate. BLADE SHEARING RATE $5O. HANDPIECE ALLOWANCE 65c per 100. TRAVELLING ALLOWANCE 24c per mile or 14.85 c per km. LIVING AWAY ALLOWANCE $2.75 per day. NO agreement has been reached on a Canterbury premium for crutching and shedhand rates. Clause 11. (a) Shedhands shall be paid not less than $2.92 per hour. (b) (i) Pressers shall be paid not less than $3.06 per hour. (ii) Daggers shall be paid not less than $3.06 per hour or §9.85 per 100. (c) COOKS — For cooking for 12 persons or under, cooks shall be paid not less than $23.75 per day. Where over 12 persons are employed, the minimum rate shall be increased by 36c per person per day for each additional person required to be cooked for. Where over 20 persons have to be cooked for, the rate of wages shall be mutually arranged. Attention is drawn to Clause 15 (c) which states that block and tackle pull over presses are illegal and during the currency of this Award double action ratchet presses shall be phased out. The following memorandum is attached to the Award:— MEMORANDUM The Employers and the Union agree to inform their respective members that the intention of the parties is to abide by the Award provisions of Clause 10 (k) that sheep shall be presented only in a clean condition for the shearer, i.e. the (lagging operation shall be done before shearing commences. Shearers have a right under the Award, Clause 10 (k) to refuse to shear such daggy sheep. I.
