Situation: An active cold front moving east across the Tasman Sea is expected to cross the South Island tomorrow and reach Cook Strait in the evening; the front is preceded by a strong northwesterly airstream and followed by a south-westerly airstream. Forecasts: Canterbury: North-westerlies strong inland and spreading to the coast at times; rain in the Alps, scattered
falls elsewhere; moderate temperatures. Marlborough, Nelson: Westerlies becoming strong and gusty in exposed places and’ reaching gale force about the Sounds; light showers at first but more general rain developing from this afternoon; cool. Buller, Westland: Northerlies, fresh at times; rain becoming widespread; moderate day temperatures. Outlook: Showers in all districts.
