Record attempt fails
PA Auckland The speedy pacer Greg Robinson (above) failed in a special attempt to break the Alexandra Park track record for a mile on Saturday night Greg Robinson using an American speed cart imported last week by the Auckland Owners, and Trainers Association ran
Imin 58.95, only 0.6 s outside the track record set by Colonel Brvdon in 1977. For breaking 2min Greg Robinson earned $5OO that had been donated by an anonymous sponsor, and a trophy from the Thames Trotting Club. Had the pacer broken the track record he u'ould have earned $2500.
Greg Robinson which was driven by his ownertrainer, Max Robinson, ha I the assistance of a galloping prompter. Precious Nandina, which was driven by Frank Cooney. The first half mile was run in just over Imin, the last half in 58 Bs, and the last quarter in 30s. The Auckland 0.T.8. Association is negotiating
for a considerable amount of sponsorship concerning the use of the speed cart next season, ft plans to make it available for special time trials and trackrecord attempts for all classes over a mile. It /ill conate prize money to all record breakers at Alexandra Park.
