First winners for two southern stallions
Special correspondent Dunedin The stallions, Noble Bijou i and Lloyd, were respre-1 sented by their first winners; when Double d’Or and All! Smiles won the divisions of the Landon Maiden at Oamaru on Saturday. Double d’Or and All Smiles both won in clear-cut style, confirming earlier placed efforts. Double d’Or seems likely material for the Broadlands filly series next season. Jim
Collett, who rode her on I Saturday, is keen to secure i the mount. i It is not planned to race' i her during the winter /months but she will remain in the care of the Gore trainer, Rex Cochrane. Double d’Or is raced by I Mrs Vai Christophers, of Tuatapere, who has had her share of misfortune with racing and breeding ventures. Laristan, the dam of Double d’Or died last spring along with the foal she was
carrying by Approval. Laristan’s other produce, a filly by Lomond, died when a week old.
Mrs Christophers had Meladine in the Cochrane stable but he went in the wind after winning as a three-year-oid in 1977. She bought the jumper Wayleggo in January and races him from the Bill Hillis stable. She is working Wayleggo on the farm at present.
Double d’Or’s is from he first crop of Noble Bijou, which has also had the placegetters, Beau Noble (two seconds in Adelaide), Supremity (second) and The Merchant (five placings) from seven starters.
Noble Bijou, which stands at the White Robe Lodge Stud, of Brian and Lorraine Anderton, at Wingatui, is a half brother by Vaguely Noble to Allez France, the winner of $U51,380,565 in France, England and the United States. All Smiles is a three-year-old filly by Lloyd from Final Belle, owned and trained at Orari by Lionel Pratt. Lloyd won 12 races as a sprinter when trained by Pratt who stands him.
