America’s Cup yacht

NZPA New York The 12-metre yacht Freedom, a New United States contender for the 1980 America's Cup, has been commissioned at the New York Maritime College. Freedom’s skipper will be Dennis Conner, twice Star Class world champion and an Olympic yachting medallist. Owned by the Maritime

College, Freedom was built at the Minneford Yacht Yard here. It will undergo sea trails on Long Island Sound this summer, then it will be towed to Newport. Rhode Island, and sail against the yacht Enterprise, also owned by the foundation, this summer and in 1980. Challengers will come from among Australia. Britain, France and Sweden.
