F.I.S. series heads ski-ing calendar
The third International Ski Federation (F. 1.5. series at Mount Hutt in late July is the highlight of the 1979 New Zealand racing calendar. Another feature is that the New Zealand downhill and giant slalom championships are scheduled for the first time at Turoa, the new commercial field on the southern side of Mount Ruapehu. The calendar is:— July 21 to 22. — Air New Zealand Trophy, Mount Hutt, slalom and giant slalom. July 24 to August 2.— F.I.S. series at Mount Hutt, downhill, slalom and giant slalom. August 4 to 5. — Coronet Cup, Coronet Peak, slalom and giant slalom. August 6 to 19. — Australian F.I.S. series, slalom, giant slalom, and downhill. August 11 to 12. — South Island junior championships, Tekapo, slalom and giant’ slalom. September 1 to 2.— North Island junior championships, Whakapapa, slalom and giant slalom.
September 3 to 4. •— Qantas Cup , Whakapapa, slalom and giant slalom. September 3 to 6. — National slalom championships, Whakapapa. September 7 to 11. — National downhill and giant slalom, Turoa. Regional events include:— June 30 to July 1. — Early Bird junior races and amateur open parallel slalom, Mount Hutt. July 28 to 29. — Canterbury junior championships, Mount Cheeseman, slalom and giant slalom. July 28. — Regional schools meeting, Coronet Peak, slalom and giant slalom. August 18 to 19. — Canterbury inter-club meeting, Mount Olympus slalom and giant slalom. August 18 to 19. — All ages meeting, Treble Cone, slalom and giant slalom. August 25 to 26. — McKenzie Scholarship. Porter Heights, slalom and giant slalom. August 25 to 26. — S.D.S.A. championships, Coronet Peak, slalom and giant slalom.
