The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Rowling) protested about changed seating arrangements for members after the result of the Hunua recount, when Parliament sat at 9 a m. yesterday Mr Rowling unsucccess-
fully moved to have Mr Beetham added to the select committee reviewing Standing Orders and procedure. A petition was presented from Mrs Kathy McCarthy, and 884 others seeking an improvement in Auckland suburban railway services. Reports on Security Intelligence Service interceptions, the Services Export Development Grants Advisory Committee, and the Consumer Price Index Revision Advisory Committee were tabled. Eight notices of motion were tabled, and Ministers answered 19 questions.
■ The Address-in-Reply debate continued until the adjournment at 1 p.m.
