GENERAL: The Division has a small group located at Atherton in North Queensland undertaking research in aspects of rain forest botany and ecology. Atherton lies within the main belt of tropical rain forest ip northeastern Australia and is well situated as a base for field research with a wide variety of rain forest types in the immediate vicinity. DUTIES: To initiate and undertake research relating to ' the influence of soil properties on the distribution of rain forest plant species and the effects of various forest management alternatives on the Stability of rain forest soils. It is envisaged that the work will be carried out in co-operation with other members of the station and soil scientists from the Division of Soils located In Townsville. QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. or equivalent qualification in a relevant field, preferably soil physics. SALARY: Research Scientist/Senior Research Scientist $15,422-$22,405 p.a. TENURE: 5 years superannuation available.
