Fish farm seminar planned
PA Wellington There could be more seafood delicacies such as scallops, oysters, prawns and salmon as fish farming is developed in New Zealand, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. The Ministry has planned what it regards as a landmark conference in Wellington in September to draw together all major interests involved in fish farming. A Ministry scientist organising the conference, D' P. Dinamani. said it would provide the basis for future policies and development. Fish and shellfish farmers, researchers, entrepreneurs, environmentalists and fishing industry representatives will attend. It is a particularly important conference,” Dr Dinamani said. “It takes on e e possibility of new dimensions in the industry." H<* claimed the new I emphasis on fish farming came at a time when substnatial investment and rising energy costs were making conventionally captured catches increasingly expensive.
