Japan beef quota up
NZPA-Reuter Tokyo The Japanese Government yesterday announced that it would import 63,000 tonnes of beef for general use during the first half of the 1979 financial year, which began last month. This is an increase of 57.5 per cent on the corresponding period last year and comes after criti-
cism from Japan’s trading partners that it was not taking enough imported beef. Japanese Government sources said that the import quota was intended to meet Japan’s assurances given to Australia recently to increase beef imports eventually to 135,000 tonnes a year.
