Girl wins piano competition
Two Christchurch girls won first and second prize in the new junior piano concerto competition final, held in the James Hay Theatre, Christchurch, last evening.
The competition, which is sponsored by a Christchurch woman, Miss Thora Lewin, for pianists aged under 18, was won by Jill Pears. The second placing went to Dinah Anderson. The girls received prizes of $2OO and $lOO, respectively. Other prizes were awarded to Lea Henderson, Melinda Williams, Lucy Ellis, and Kaye Godfrey.
The finalists were accompanied by the Christchurch Youth Orchestra, conducted by Peter Schwartz.
