Disraeli should be rewarded in Gloaming Stakes
Special correspondent Wellington Disraeli is one of the best gallopers around the Central Districts region and he could get his reward when he tackles the Gloaming Stakes, first leg of the double at Trentham tomorrow. So far in his current campaign Disraeli has had only a handful of starts, but his last two were in the best possible company at Hastings. On the first day he was fifth in the 1400 m weight-for age Hawke’s Bay Challenge Stakes and then stepped up to run fourth in the Ormond Memorial, won so well by La Mer. Disraeli was at Trentham
yesterday morning and he, handled the wet track conditions without bother. Koiro Trelay is an exciting three-year-old The winner of the Hawke’s Bay Guineas, he had a long period in the wilderness caused as much by injury as anything else. But at Feilding at Easter and then at Woodville last week, Koiro Trelay beat useful fields. Mr Ay Bee is all class. But on a heavy track he will have to spot weight to all,
Disraeli, with 55kg, being! the closest to him in the handicap. Even so with 59, one kilo less than on Saturday, he must be a royal chance as he steps out for his last New Zealand race be.fore going to race id Brisbane. Vice Regal looks the class runner in the second leg of the double, the Captain Cook Stakes. In his present form Vice Regal has few peers, certainly now that La Mer is gone. ___________
He beat the mare in the Challenge Stakes at Hastings, won under weight-for-age conditions at Avondale midweek and he returned to run third in the Ormond, all in the space of seven days. My Binnie and Silver Liner are two fine mares which could press him close.
