Cooksley ‘to try Melbourne’
Special correspondent Auckland One of the most promi nent Takanini jockeys, G. L. Cooksley, could be next to join the growing number of New Zealanders in Melbourne. Cooksley said yesterday he plans to “try Melbourne” for six months after the coming Great Northern meeting. His present intention is to join another New Zealand jockey, L. G. Ace, who took up residence at Mornington, near Melbourne a few years ago. Just about all that could keep Cooksley home is his being required later in the winter for Ballycastle on which he won the Waikato Steeplechase, the Great Northern Steeplechase and the McGregor Grant Steeplechase last winter.
