Talented teen-ager

Warrick Shillito, a 19-year-old in his first year out of high school, is included in the Canterbury hockey squad of 27 announced yesterday by the provincial selector-coach, Mr C. Walter.
Shillito, who plays for the University club, made an immediate impression on the senior competition when for the first month he assumed the important inside-right position in the absence of the experienced New Zealand representative, John Christensen.
In many ways Shillito resembles the player he temporarily replaced, especially with his close controlled dribbling, and his inclusion is no surprise. The only other player new to a Canterbury squad is Gerard Guillen, but he has previously played for Otago and New Zealand Universities. As always there are play-
ers who must be considered unlucky not to have made the squad, but Mr Walter emphasised that if a player showed sufficiently good form he could be added to the squad. It is an indication of the strength of Canterbury hockey that probably a dozen players on the verge of the squad would be welcomed with open arms in any other representative team in the country with the possible exceptions of Wellington and and Auckland. The Canterbury A and B teams to play in quadrangular tournaments at Queen’s Birthday week-end will be chosen form the squad. The A team will play Wellington, Manawatu and Otago at Christchurch, and the B team will meet Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury Colts at Blenheim. The squad will start training next Thursday at the Technical
Institute Gymnasium at 5.30 p.m. The squad is.— R. L. McHarg (University), M. Fitzsimons (SydenhamCashmere), G. Sligo (Old Boys); J. Gibson (Old Boys), A. Ineson (Redcliffs), I.' Steel (Harewood), E.
