Union to vote twice
The 800 members of the Canterbury Hotel, Hospital, and Restaurant Workers’ Union will complete ballot forms twice in the next few months. They will vote at meetings next month on whether they want the union to remain compulsory for workers in the industry. Later they will vote in a postal ballot on
who they want as their full-time paid secretary. There are two nominations: the acting secretary, Mr G. D. Harding, who was assistant secretary until Mr C. McCready resigned on April 30, and Mr J. McGowan, a hospital employee. Mr McCready resigned for personal reasons.
