'Famine' raises $300,000
PA tj Wellington The World Vision 40-hour “famine” has raised more than $300,000 to date, with more money coming in continually. The “famine’ 3 director, Mr E. Legget, said that it was a very encouraging result although funds were slower getting through this year than in 1978.
“V’i are very grateful for the thousands of people who have given so generously through the famine and for the people all over New Zealand who gave positive leadership to the objects of famine,” Mr Legget said.
“Famine” funds will go to three World Vision projects, including the Sreenager community health project in Bangladesh, involving 130,000 children and 250,000 adults. This project is to improve health in the community.
The other two projects are the Wandi community development project in the Sudan and the 22 village improvement scheme at Kaupena in Papua New Guinea.
