Deportation postponed
PA Wellington A Vietnamese widow and her daughter, aged 14, ordered to leave New Zealand within a week, have been given a further 15 days grace by immigration officials. The woman. Mrs Kim Chai Huynh, aged 53, also known as Chee Lee, and her daughter came to New Zealand for two weeks in December. 1977, with a tour party from Singapore. This week they were told by the Immigration Department that they must leave New Zealand by May 16. But yesterday a Labour Department assistant secretary, Mr P. Jones, said the couple now had until May 31 to leave. He said he expected that the woman’s lawyer would make further submissions to the department in the meantime. These would be considered.
