Interest rates irritate
New interest rates of 13 per cent, on Government; loans, would only increase! inflation. Mr M. R. Good told! a meeting of the County' Chamber of Commerce. The new interest rate 1 would also affect other lend-! ing institutions and the; availability of loan money to the private sector, he said.: One finance company had al-! ready increased interest rates! to 14 per cent over 12 months, payable in advance. “The only justification for the Government’s action that I can think of is that it needs money," Mr Good said. Inflation was the main problem in industry and increasing interest rates would jnly worsen the situation. | The move was “another! tail in the coffin of private mterprise.”
