N.Z. friends to visit Miss Teipel
PA Wellington Susanne Teipel’s friends plan to visit her in West Germany next year. Miss Teipel, as a Rotary exchange student, stayed with Mrs Faith Vandam and her husband in March during her visa controversy. After her return to Germany the Vandams also had her boyfriend, Rainer Joerissen, to stay. He flew back to Germany last Sunday. “We plan to get over there to see them in Germany within 18 months,” said Mrs Vandam. “Both Rainer and Susanne have invited us and said they are keen to show us round.” Mrs Vandam met Miss Teipel early this year through a mutual German friend and invited Miss Teipel to stay with her family in Taranaki to see how a farm was run.
Miss Teipel and Mr Joerissen were staying with Mrs
Vandam’s relatives in Hawke’s Bay when Rotary decided to cancel Miss Teipel’s sponsorship because of “romantic attachments.”
“When Susanne finally left, both of us we.re pleased to be able to get some peace of mind after all the fuss but since then I have been missing her,” said Mrs Vandam.
Two weeks ago she received a letter from Miss Teipel who said she was having trouble settling down in Germany. “I’m in Germany in body, but still in New Zealand in mind and thought,” she said. Miss Teipel is now at home in Krefeld, Germany, planning to start university in September. Mr Joerissen plans to join a jazz group and go to a special music university. Miss Teipel’s Te Rapa host family, the Walcotts, have not heard from her or her family.
