Apprentices in form at Trentham

Special correspondent Wellington The Centra! Districts apprentices, Greg Childs, and Jim Cassidy, seems unable to do anything w’rong. Yesterday the pair took away the T.A.B. double between them while Childs added three more to his tally for the meeting to give him" seven for the two days. ! Childs rode three on Satur- ; day including the two feature races on Stormee i (Cuddle Stakes) and Soleigh (Waterloo Handicap). | After racing on Saturday Childs snapped up the ride on the Takanini chestnut. Luck Roona, and yesterday’ I rode him to a narrow but

game win in the feature sprint, the Adventure Handicap (1400 m Before Luck Roona’s gutsy win however, Childs had earlier won on the Cambridge visitor, Casino, and the Hawera filly, Nearenough. He then won on the latter's stablemate, Misty Cloud.

Though Sans Rival was his first winner for the meeting, Cassidy has been riding the crest of a wave this season with a high place on the jockey's premiership. Recently he has been very successful on Foxton horses, especially those trained by Paddy Busuttin and Dave Enright. Childs is also rapidly

heading towards a place In the top ten of the season and Luck Roona’s success gave him his thirty-eighth win this term.

On Saturday Luck Roona was ridden into second place in the Wadestown Handicap by the northern horseman; Clan Southworth, who left to I try his luck in Australia on 'Sunday. That was when jChilds picked up the mount. I hut the four-year-old son of ißahroona will have another change of rider for his big- ' gest mission at Wellington, j the Captain Cook Stakes on Saturday. • Gus Clutterbuck is the I new rider because Childs had a prior engagement. Yesterday Luck Roona had to be good to win. He drew one from the outside at the 2400 m start. However, Childs had him well placed on the outside after going only 200 m. From there they stayed in touch with the pace and turned for home ready tcs challenge. Luck Roona reached the front but he was one of a wall of horses making a bid. One the run home Childs had to ride Luck Roona out as challenges came wide out on the track. Kerdizo looked like heading him first, then Te Pee Gold, then Surrey Park and then Zenabelle. But it was the little gelding Tarbela, which came from the back of the field, to put in the final claim. Tarbela appeared to head Luck Roona slightly.only to come to the end of his run and let Luck Room edge clear again. > Luck Roona was goiftg away again at the finish, winning by a head from Taxbela, with Kerdizo battling on strongly a short-head further back. There was i length to Surrey Park and Zenabelle together. Sans Rival provided the upset of the afternoon wh&n she gamely beat highefgraded horses in the first leg of the T.A.B. double, the Evans Bay Handicap. Her winning margin was a decisive two lengths and her [victory was also a tribute tb Cassidy’s riding. He had kept her mid-field mostly but had improved to hie behind the leaders turning for home and it was only a question of waiting for £ gap. Sans Rival got a gap shortly after straightening beating Eloop for it, and it was that runner which did best behind Sans Rival dowp the straight. Sans Rival dived to the lead at the 300 m and kept up a bold gallop to score nicely.
