Chamber’s ultimatum
PA Wellington Boilermakers have until Monday to start work on Wellington’s third container crane or face a publicity campaign by the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. The campaign’s purpose will be to embarrass the boilermakers and their backers. It was decided at the chamber’s meeting this week that if the boilermakers are not back at work by May 14 it will launch a publicity campaign costing tens of thousands of dollars telling the public what the dispute has cost Wellington. The chamber’s president (Mr R. D. Marvelly) said, “We have given them until May 14 and we will hold a meeting before then to plan our action.
“If they don’t agree to start work then, we will press the button.”
