Competition unwanted on N.Z.-Europe run
Shipping News
PA Wellington The New Zealand-European Shipping Association carries all of New Zealand’s exports designed to travel by sea to the Continent—and wants things to remain that way, reports the Press Association. The chairman of the association (Mr P. A. McCallum) said that the Conference Lines had decided to “fly the flag” to protect their interests in the light of statements by another shipping company that it wants some of the export business for itself. Mr T V. Rosenfield, a European shipping magnate who runs Antwerp bulk carriers, recently moved into the European-Australian shipping market in competition with Conference Lines ships there, and has now said that he is interested in a New ZealandEuropean service. Mr McCallum said that the importance of the Conference system was in the orderly movement of New Zealand exports and imports. “We provide a regular service with a lot of ships from most New Zealand ports to a wide selection of ports overseas.” he said.
The association felt that there was no need for another shipping line to compete on the New Zealand-European run, because the number of ships on the route was adequate now. ARRIVALS
