Dam at Cromwell delayed for year
| PA Dunedin Completion of the hydro--electric dam at Cromwell is [now expected to be a year later than the original target date of 1987, according to the Minister of Works and Development (Mr W. L. Young). Mr Young, who visited the project site yesterday morning, said that legal problems and a reduction in power demand had caused the expected delay.
He denied rumours that the project would be mothballed, saying that the money was available for the scheme.
Although late notice of his visit ruled out a meeting between Mr Young and the full borough council, he had informal discussions with the Mayor of Cromwell (Mr I. G. Anderson).
Mr Anderson met Mr Young at the project site and they discussed the new town plan for Cromwell. The borough council plans to undertake a S4M building project over the next eight
• years to improve existing , residential areas. J Provision of funds is being negotiated between the , council and the Government, ’ according to the Town Clerk I of Cromwell (Mr J. B. Skin- : ner).
