Killing for meat
Sir, — While so much emphasis is given to the manner in which sheep are to be killed, by a particular country, whose delegates have inspected freezing works, may I direct another question? Why kill an animal to eat? Alternative forms of protein abound, of purity, against the dead flesh of animals already decomposed in the process of slaughtering. The orthodox idea of eating meat for strength could be abandoned and substituted by the finer purifying aspects of using Nature’s provisions. We could see our lambs primarily for wool for our economy. I would ask those human beings who are sensitive at the sight of sheep and cattle bound tightly in trucks, moving to the works to consider refraining from eating their dead carcases. —Yours, etc., (Miss) N. TAYLOR. May 8, 1979.
