Painful justice
NZPA Lahore Two men convicted of bank robbery in Pakistan must have their right hand and left foot cut off, the Qazi (judge) of the Islamic Law Court, Mohammad Jail Akhtar, has ruled. The two, Sikandar Ali, aged 25, and Mohammad Tayyab, aged 24, were
found guilty of robbing the Habib Bank, Ltd, at its Fazulka branch in the Punjab province of Pakistan in December, 1978. A third suspect drowned in a canal near the bank while trying to escape.
Last week, an Islamic law court of the Multan district ordered the amputation of the right hand of a convicted thief.
