Drivers seek rise
PA Wellington Drivers have started a series of job meetings as part of their union’s huild-up to the general award negotiations on May 29. The union has distributed a circular telling members. “We are chasing 20 per cent.” In the past, the general drivers’ award has set trends for other wage negotiations later in the year. Other unions employers’ groups and the Government will take a keen interest in them. The union says its starting rates are the lowest for any drivers. Compared with harbour board, timber, dairy, and rail drivers, they say, they are behind from $3.30 to $13.91 on award rates, and up to $2B behind on a 60-hour week.
