Kingston flyer

Sir, — Robyn Jenkin’s imaginative reminiscences, inspired by a trip on the Kingston Flyer, inspire me write in support of her appeal. It would be a thousand pities if such a rare flash of official imagination as this delightful train was allowed to disappear because present-day officialdom has no imagination. Out of an expected deficit of possibly up to $60,000,000 (the mind boggles), the $400,000 loss on the train seems quite small change. This unique train would be worth paying a higher fare to ride on. I was most surprised at the modest fare when I sampled it last year. With more attractive advertising, especially in other countries, I feel sure more tourists would want to ride on it. It is such a valuable tourist attraction that surely other Government departments such as the tourist, should help to subsidise, its running. — Yours, etc., HUGH BENNETT. May 5, 1979.
