Dog ' skin and bone’
S.P.C.A. staff are nursing a badly battered Afghan hound, picked up from an address in Parklands on Tuesday. The manageress of the S.P.C.A. depot in Wilmurs Road (Mrs V. Grimes) said on Wednesday that it was the worst case of animal abuse she had seen in seven years. The dog was “just skin and bone,” with little hair left on its body.It was about four years old, and weighed only about 70kg.
Mrs Grimes said that complaints . about maltreatment of the dog had started last December, and the owner had been warned twice since then. An inspector had returned to the address on Tuesday, after a nearby resident had reported the dogs’ yelps. Advice on how to feed the dog had been given by a veterinary surgeon. It might take four months to nurse back to good health, Mrs Grimes said.
