Nelson railway
Sir,—When the Nelson railway, which ran through the middle of one of the biggest man-made forests in New Zealand, was closed and then ripped up by the National Government in 1955, the then Prime Minister, the late Sir Sidney Holland, promised the land would not be sold. Now I read that, the National Government through Mr McLachlan, has ordered the land to be sold. The railways belong to the people and no politician should' have the power to sell them unless he has a mandate to do so. —Yours, etc.,'
