Sales rise 23.9 p.c.
PA Wellington Manufactuers’ sales last December were 23.9 per cent higher than in December, 1977, according to a Department of Statistics survey. In a statement, the department said that for the same period stocks of finished goods were 4 per cent higher.
Oher factors that rose over the same period were: Gross capital expenditure, up 14.8 per cent; salaries and wages, 19.1 per cent; purchases up 16 per cent. Other operating expenses, 7.2 per cent, hours worked, 4 per cent. Stocks of materials were 2.8 per cent lower than in December, 1977.
The department’s industry group estimates of national totals are produced from a sample o f manufacturing establishments selected from the 1974-75 manufacturing census.
A sample of new establishments was taken quarterly in order to keep the sample up to date, said the stateinent.
