F.O.L. affiliation?

PA Wellington Members of the New Zealand Journalists’ Union will be asked to vote on a recommendation that they affiliate with the Federation of Labour. The union’s national council unanimously recommended affiliation at a special conference in Wellington last month, according to a special issue of the union’s paper.

Members of the union, which covers newspapers, magazine and private radio journalists outside the Auckland area, will vote by secret ballot at a series of stop-work meetings from April 23. The union’s paper contains a report of the implications of F.O.L. affiliation prepared at the instruction of the N.Z.J.U. national conference last year by the national secretary, Mr M. P. Conway. It also includes an assessmen of the report by an industrial consultant and arguments for and against affiliation prepared by N.Z.J.U. members.
