The arson charge arose from a fire in business premises at Newmarket. Bruce Meyer Goldwater, aged 35, a jeweller, of Kohimarama, had pleaded not guilty at the depositions hearing to the charges of possessing an arson charge and other imitation pistol while committing the offence of arspn, and cultivating cannabis. He appeared in the Magistrate’s court at Auckland. Detective Sergeant A. J. Shalfoon alleged that in the early hours of January 31 the defendant went to Lornies Building in The Broadway, Newmarket, and, using a jemmy and other tools, went to the offices of Metro! Importers, Ltd, on the second floor. He alleged that Gold-

water had with him two sacks of petrol-soaked wood and a tin of petrol, and that he spread the petrol about and set fire to the sacks before leaving the building. Detective Sergeant Shalfoon said that there was a big explosion, and the fire spread to the roof of the premises. It was alleged that Goldwater went to the summit of Mount Eden to watch the fire, and that he then approached a police patrol car and said he had started it. Detective Sergeant Shalfoon said that Goldwater’s home was searched. The police found 71 cannabis plants of varying sizes. Norman Robert Silk, managing director of Metro) Importers, Ltd, said that as a result of the fire, $60,000 worth of damage was done to the firm’s Lornies building office. The defendant, he said had some pendants from Metrol Importers. Detective R. D. Kemp said that he spoke to Goldwater, who told him

he had arrived on Earth in 1943. He had presented his credentials to a Mr Krishnamurti, who was in charge of bookings requesting entry to Earth. Detective Kemp said that, according to Goldwater, . Krishnamurti had a mandate to- use Martian technology and energy to wrest control of Earth’s financial system. Hie defendant had been sent to assist. The defendant had said that Krishnamurti became aware of his (the defendant’s) power, and he tried to gain control of the defendant’s craft, which was in “parking orbit” around the Earth, by taking control of his mind. Detective Kemp said that G.oldwater said that after a time he had proof of Krishnamurti’s plans. He tried to publicise them but found Krishnamurti’s agents were in charge of the news media and the Security Intelligence Service. Goldwater has said that he knew that David Silk, the brother of Norman Silk, who worked at Metro

Importers, was a Krishnamurti agent. Detective Kemp said Goldwater had decided that drastic action was needed, and had set fire to the offices of Metro Importers. The witness said that Goldwater had told him that he had received instructions from his craft t lat David Silk would hive to be exterminated. He intended to carry out these instructions as soon as he was free. Detective Kemp said that, although he had told Goldwater he did not have to say anything, he had not administered the full caution immediately because he was not sure whether he was being made a fool. Goldwater had told him that he had bought an imitation pistol and a cap to worry his enemies and to -ke them expend power and energy watching him. Detective Kemp . said that Goldwater had told him that Krishnamurti had instructed him to plant the cannabis.
