Taxing the dole
Sir, — A seasonal worker earns $14,000 in eight months and spends the other four months fishing, or motoring around the southern lakes. Other people work 12 months and earn only $BOOO. Why should the person on $BOOO per annum pay tax to give a tax-free benefit to the seasonal worker on $14,000 per annum, who is holidaying or fishing in the south for four months? Of course the dole, and other like benefits should be taxed, but subject to an annual income test of course. — Yours, etc., FRANK FREEMAN. March 29. 1979.
