Capping Week charity chosen
The Dr Barnardo’s family I day-care centre in Christ-i< church will benefit from this | vear’s University of Canter- I fcury capping activities. Students plan a wide range of activities for Cap-It ping Week, which will run! from April 19 to 24. Theb theme this year, “The Italian i Job,” is based on the film of 1 ' the same name. About 50,000 copies of 11 this year’s capping maga-( line, "Needeep Two,” arei being printed for sale) throughout New Zealand.’;
[Canterbury University students will travel about to (sell them during Capping j Week. They will be on sale ( in central and suburban ' Christchurch on April 23 land 24. | Each 64-page copy will (cost 70c, 14c from each sale igoing to the capping charity. 'The capping controller (Mr A. Monroe) said it was [hoped about So5()0 would be | raised for the charity from sales alone. ■ Various Christchurch organisations, including the
Fire Service, the Army, and the Royal New Zealand Air Force, have been invited to take part in an Avon River raft race, to be held on April 21. The home-made rafts will sail from Kerrs Reach to the Wainoni overbridge. Prizes will be given for the best, the biggest, and the fastest rafts. The New Zealand “Chunda i Mile” championships will be I held at Rugby Park on April 22, in which other universities have been invited to take part. Before running in
the various races, all competitors will be required to drink beer and eat several meat pies. Other features of Capping Week will be the, annual Avon River bike race, a spa-ghetti-eating contest, a pizza-baking contest in which the pieces of pizza will be sold for charity, and concerts for students. The graduation ceremonies for University of Canterbury students will be held on May 2 and 3.
