Wool prices easier

PA Invercargill Most prices at the Invercargill wool sale yesterday were below those at the Napier sale last Friday. Compared with Napier, crossbred fleece and first lambs’ wool was 2.5 per cent cheaper; crossbred skirtings, oddments and crutchings were in buyers’ favour; and second lambs’ w’ool was firm. The fleece wools showed general discolouration and tenderness and cotting was evident in many lots. The lambs’ wool and sec-ond-shear showed discolouration but generally were high yielding.

.The two-day catalogues contain 42,129 bales, of which 21,404 bales were offered yesterday. The offering was 56 per cent fleece, 20 per cent lambs’ wool, 6 per cent second-shear, and the balance oddments.

The main competition came from Western and Eastern Europe with limited support from Bradford, Japan and New Zealand mills. The Wool Board bid on I per cent of the offering and had 23 bales passed to it. The range of prices was: c c Coarse crossbred, high yielding, 44/
