McCormick’s lot
Short of a job. but not short of rugby commitments: this is the lot of Fergie McCormick as he approaches his fortieth birthday. And maybe the veteran full-back should be playing for the opposition on Saturday.
The Cantabrians will play the Evergreens — which title certainly fits McCormick — at Palmerston North on Saturday, and the Mana-watu-based side is virtually a full-strength provincial side. The match is to serve as a shake-down before Manawatu’s Australian tour. The match will also fea-
ture what may be one of a number of swansongs for Doug Bruce, the just-retired All Black first five-eighth. Four Wellington players are in the team, the balance Canterbury representative players, except for the Marist second five-eighth, Paul Molloy. The full team is:—
McCormick, Terry Mitchell, Shane Gibbons, Warwick Proctor (Wellington), Molloy, Bruce, Graeme Ellis, Murray Mexted (Wellington), Don Hayes, Barry Gard’ner (Wellington), Bruce Farmer, John Phillips, Murray Davie, John Black, John Tutt (Wellington).
