Iran’s Ministry of Labour has said foreign employees I in non-essential jobs will be .dismissed in two stages i under new regulations to I take effect in a month’s 'time. The new labour regulation is expected to affect I about 500,000 workers [mostly from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the PhilipIpines, employed on construction sites in various parts of [lran. The Government acted 'as the nation’s unemployment rolls swelled to about four million. Increased unemployment was forecast 'due to an economic recession in the wake of the Islamic revolution that toppled Shah Mohammad Reza Pahjlavi’s monarchy last month. '— Teheran.
