Proposals for creches
Sir. —With regard to the letters attacking Audrey G. Hann for merely being a conscientious mother one feels prompted to ask why some women have children. Did it not occur to them beforehand that their own activities would be restricted to some degree, that they might fcr five short years have to make a few small sacrifices? It is not Audrey Hann’s letter that “alarms” me but Kathryn Gillard’s reaction to it. Could it be that her outraged indignation is camouflage for doubts she is reluctant to acknowledge? Those concerned about the International Year of the Child should remember that the welfare of their offspring is primarily in the hands of parents. It is not the responsibility of local authorities. —Yours, etc., S. M. WELLS. March 25, 1979.
