Good yarns
So successful has been Simpsons specialisation in tapestry and embroidery yarns, that they now have Christchurch department stores approaching them for thread. The selection was good in Simpsons shop in Miller’s Plaza and ground-floor shop, but now it is even better. One of their supply firms, Coates/Patons, say that Simpsons Sewing Centre has the biggest stock of embroidery thread in New Zealand.
Another spelc alty is novelty yarns for knitting, and Simpsons are one of the few firms in Christchurch to stock Cannon mercerized cotton, the crochet thread that can be used for handwork or on knitting-machines. This J. and P. Coates product comes in 400 g cones and a wide range of colours. For tapestry enthusiasts who are just learning the craft, Simpsons stock the full range Of Coates An-
cora cotton. This is much easier to work with than the stranded Anchor cottons, that more proficient tapestry workers use. And for those who prefer to work their tapestry picture in wool, there is a full range of imported tapestry wools. Before the shift to their new shop, Simpsons did not have the room to stock all the knitting wools they wished. Now their basic stock of four and six-ply wools has been expanded to include a good range of baby wools, three-plys, doubleknit and triple-knit wools.
Now there will also be room for a bigger haberdashery section at Simpsons. Zips, buttons and edgings will be stocked in greater quantities and variety,. and to assist leisurely customer selection, Simpsons have incorporated the old-style comfort of chairs beside their counters.
